Welcome To Blue Rovers

Welcome to Blue Rovers Junior Football Club.  We serve families primarily in south Tauranga.  Into it.....  Website current to 25th July.   Another good weekend for the Rovers, with wins going to G8 Dragons & Super Novas, G9 Bullets, Lazers & Aces, G10 AllStars & Cobras, G11 Titans, and all three G12/13 teams.  Wohooo!  11 wins (including 1 derby) and 2 draws - great result!  We certainly seem to be improving our way through the season which is the way it should be.  Huge credit to the coaches who are getting those teams better and better.

Draw out now - scroll down to find your link for this saturday's game.

VGVincent Green Tournie.  This popular G11 tournie will be held on 8th August.  BR Teams and other clubs - get your invites in fast to avoid dissappointment.  As this is strictly a G11 tournament it is a chance to for some pretty talented football to be displayed.  Check out the Vincent Green page for details.

Big thanks to Dave Molloy for those excellent new G9 goals.  Not only do they look great but there's no more dragging goals across the field thanks to the wheels.  It's obviously very much apprecaited by the coaches as they are going out at every training now.

AllstarstournieHere's a wee souvenir from the G10 Waipuna tournament held recently.  The All Stars taking a break

The Aces are having a great season.  They were sitting 2nd on the table at the end of the half season and coach, John Box, is pleased with the way they are beginning to play as a team.  He is delighted with the team's 2-0 win over Papamoa Tigers on Saturday, as the Tigers beat the Aces 5-2 last time they met.  Because of this sort of thing, John is not a big fan of the mid season grade reshuffle.  He reckons that playing a team twice is the only way to get a good indication of how you are progressing, and the reshuffle and resetting of the league is deflating to both players and coaches.  John puts this weekend's result down, in part, to a change in strategy but he's not revealling the new strategy as he knows other clubs avidly watch this website and doesn't want to offer them any advantage.  He's also beginning to introduce some set piece plays into the game and that is coming on nicely.  The team needs to focus on good hard passes, as their current less energetic ones are being intercepted.  As with all coaches, a game is the best way to identify things to be worked on.
He reckons one of the keys to his coaching success is to keep things interesting.  The kids get bored doing the same thing so he tries to inject a lot of variety into his training.  That aside, he has a drill the kids love.  It's a simple one.  Put half the team on each side of the goal so each player has an opposing partner.  A ball is sent out from the goal and then it's a 1 vs 1 race to score.
The Aces look like they are going to do the club proud.  The beat the league leaders in the last half and we'll watch with interest to see if they can take out the league.

Team web pages.  I've been getting plenty of photos sent in for the the team pages and getting emails from all around the world by appreciative gandparents. You can either send me the photos directly or, to make things easier all round, put them on an online album and simply send me the link. If you don't have an online album, here is the famous flikr and here is Google's equivalent, picassa. Not only can you put pix up there as you want, but you can have a lot higher quality than I can do - our website limits pix to 40kb.

Next draw & links to team pages....mini soccer teams - you are most welcome to have a page here - just email Steve
